Some homes are memorable because of their architecture, while others stand out because every detail feels carefully considered. This Upper West Side duplex, designed by designer Michele Bitter, achieves both. Once defined by dark velvet-lined walls and a dramatic but heavy atmosphere, the apartment has been transformed into a bright, welcoming home for a family entering a new stage of life.
The double-height great room is the heart of the home. Rich blue custom millwork, a crisp white marble fireplace, curated vintage pieces, and warm accents create a space that feels elegant without being formal. Above it all hangs our Grand Planetario Chandelier, chosen by Michele Bitter as the room’s central lighting feature.
We were delighted to see the Grand Planetario Chandelier included in this remarkable project and featured in Architectural Digest. Inspired by the solar system, its solid brass arms extend from a sculptural central sphere, while the adjustable shades create a warm, indirect glow that complements the room’s rich palette. The chandelier’s balanced proportions also make it an excellent choice for spaces that require a dramatic statement without overwhelming the architecture.
Michele Bitter’s work is built on a deep understanding of how her clients live, combining architectural sensitivity with highly personal interiors. In this apartment, her thoughtful mix of custom millwork, carefully selected furnishings, and distinctive lighting creates a home that feels timeless, comfortable, and uniquely its own. We are proud that the Grand Planetario Chandelier plays a part in bringing her vision to life.
