The Gaia lighting collection reimagines classic Mid-century Murano glass artistry with a distinctly modern sensibility. This collection breathes new life into the almost-lost art of Mezza Filigrana. Nine unique patterns are meticulously handcrafted using Murano filigrana in a selected and classic colors: Lattimo white, Black, Amber, and Red.

Each 35cm (14-inch) diameter sphere is paired with minimalist hardware, ensuring an unobstructed view of the intricate design. Ideal for creating a focal point above a dining table, kitchen island, or stairwell, Gaia elevates any space.

This specific Gaia design features a striking interplay of Amber and Cadmium Red twisted filigree, punctuated by a single Black Filigrana stripe. The visual impact is undeniable, drawing the eye and inviting closer inspection.

These exceptional red and amber filigree canes are made using a three-layer process. Lattimo white is encased within layers of rich red or amber, and then encased in clear glass. This creates a special and saturated filigree

Working closely with a Murano maestro, I guided the creation of these canes through two full ritorto stretching spins (known locally as “menà”), resulting in a dense, cross-hatched mosaic of over 70 individual canes.

The Gaia pattern emerges as molten glass is carefully rolled over this mosaic of Murano smalto filigree. Two spinning rotations during the glassblowing process create the mesmerizing spirals that define the design.

The solid brass hardware conceals a high-performance, Italian-made LED module. This dimmable light source delivers 1000 lumens with a CRI over 90 for accurate color rendering. The design is thoughtfully executed, eliminating the need for a central socket or bulb, ensuring the glass remains the star. A sleek black silk wire and a UL-CE SELV driver are seamlessly integrated into the brass canopy, completing the refined aesthetic.
