This Otto-Karl chair is part of our Eclectica collection of Biedermeier chairs.
It is made from solid Italian walnut wood. The ebonized finish is done by hand with shellac, giving it a smooth and glossy look. The seat has a firm foam base and a soft top layer for comfort, covered in a corduroy-style velvet fabric by Alessandro Bini. A matching plain velvet is used for the piping. This chair is shown here in a warm coffee color, which contrasts with the black wood frame.
Biedermeier was one of the first modern furniture styles. It focused on comfort with curved shapes and back support, and was popular with a new wealthy class, not just royalty. Its modern feel is why it works so well in today’s homes.
