This Johann-Friedrich chair is part of our Eclectica collection of Biedermeier chairs.
It’s made from solid Italian walnut wood. The ebonized finish is applied by hand using the French polish method, which creates a smooth, glossy surface.
The seat is padded for comfort with a firm foam base and a softer top layer. It is upholstered in a corduroy-style velvet from Alessandro Bini. A plain velvet is used for the piping, matching the color of the main fabric. The fabric, shown here in a warm coffee tone, makes a nice contrast with the dark wood frame.
The Biedermeier style was a fresh, modern approach to furniture design. It was one of the first styles to focus on comfort with its curved forms and lumbar support, which is why it still works so well in modern homes today.
