Livio Seguso, Heavy Murano Glass Bowl, Rainbow Design and Glass Orb, 80s Signed
Exceptional historical piece. It has the rainbow patter. A sequence of canes that Livio loved to place in sculptures where the play with the lens effect of the other clear massiccio parts.
On this piece it is clearly visible the absolute control of the light refraction. I tried to represent it with several photos.
The cluster of parallel colors is interrupted by a dripped organic line of black. It recalls the use of black in Joan Miro abstract paintings.
There is a spherical piece added where the flap folds. That orb has a bubble of glass inside that enhance the play with light, an intuition that he will magnify in his sculptures. As I always said, Livio is the only artist who creates by subtracting the light.
Signed Seguso AV below the sphere, where he usually signed his piece.
A personal note: I have had a Lino Tagliapietra rainbow disc, and the signature was placed right in the center of the disc and a very long signature. (Tagliapietra Angelin Effetre International 1983 Murano for Oggetti Miami) as everyone wanted to be mentioned!. Livio would have never ruin the clear part of a sculpture for showing the signature through his magical lenses.
It's incredible, taking the photos I realised that the signature is placed in the only place of the bowl that it's not picked up in refraction from any angle of view.
