A bespoke Grand Planetario Finds a Home on Manhattan’s Upper West Side

We are always pleased to see one of our lighting designs become part of a thoughtfully designed home. Our Orbitale Grand Planetario Chandelier was recently selected by Sarah Tract Interiors for a beautiful apartment on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, a neighborhood known for its elegant pre-war buildings, tree-lined streets, and its close connection to Lincoln Center and Central Park.

Sarah Tract has an ability to create interiors that feel refined without ever becoming formal. Her careful attention to proportion, materials, and art makes every room feel personal, and we were delighted to collaborate with her on this project.

For this apartment, the standard eight-arm Orbitale Grand Planetario was reimagined to suit a more intimate space. We reduced the chandelier to six arms, shortened their length, and arranged the brass shades evenly around the central sphere. The result preserves the original inspiration, the movement of planets around the sun, while creating a more compact composition that fits naturally within the corridor.

Installed above a gallery-like hallway lined with large contemporary artworks, the chandelier does more than provide light. Its warm brass shades softly illuminate the ceiling while directing gentle pools of light downward, guiding visitors through the space and adding depth to the paintings along the walls.

This project is a good example of how custom sizing allows one of our designs to remain true to its character while responding perfectly to its surroundings.
